Click on the checkbox for the Open Directory Service and click Save to see the Open Directory service appear in the Server Admin sidebar. At the Settings screen, click on Services. Then click on Settings in the application’s toolbar. Provided everything is cool with the hostname, open the Server Admin application from /Applications/Server. The address and host names should look correct and match what you see in the Server application’s Next Steps drawer. In Lion, I’ve seen each find things that other misses. Therefore, in order to make sure that the server has such an address, I still recommend using changeip, but I also recommend using the Server application. While the Server app is cool, it caches stuff and I’ve seen it let things go threat shouldn’t be let go. Not to get off topic on the hostname/dns/etc thing, but when you click on Network, if you decide to change names before you promote to an Open Directory Master/Replica, clicking on Edit for the Host Name, you should almost always click on the third option, Host Name for Internet… If DNS is working great, then the Configure Network section of the Next Steps drawer will appear as follows: Clicking on the drawer and then the Configure Network button brings up a screen that will complain if your DNS has any problems. The Server application has a Next Steps drawer. Before you set up Open Directory as a Replica on the system, it should have a static IP address and a name in the DNS servers that the server uses (forward and reverse lookups for said address). The Server application automatically creates local users until you setup Open Directory. When you first open and start using the Server application, you’re creating local users. That’s fine though, the new Open Directory makes much more sense afterwards. According to your internet speed, you could end up with 3 or 4 of these. This is a nice time to grab yourself the first shot of Jäger of the day. If this is the first time that you’ve opened the Server application then you’re in for a bit of a wait. The Server Admin application is not installed when you buy OS X Server on the App Store and so it can be obtained here.īut first (or while that’s downloading even), open the Server application. But setting up an Open Directory replica should be done using the Server Admin application. As we looked at in a previous article, setting up an Open Directory master should be done using the Server application. Configuring Open Directory has never been easier than it is in the Server application, though. In Lion Server, Open Directory can be managed in one of three ways: using the Server application the Server Admin application or using the command line utilities. Hope this helps someone who finds similar wonkiness. If you demote with Server Admin you won’t have these issues. Until you do this, the Server.app will error out on Open Directory promotions that the server is already an Open Directory master.Ī change I’ve made to my workflow when nukin’ and pavin’ OD is to just use Server Admin for the paving part. The fix is to use Server Admin to repromote your server back to an Open Directory master and then use Server Admin to more graciously demote the server back to stand-alone. If you do this, then Open Directory cannot be set back up using Server.app. I frequently use slapconfig to destroyldapserver:ĭoing so almost immediately allows me to demote an Open Directory master to a stand-alone server and then repromote the server to a master or replica for testing purposes. One such item is setting up and tearing down Open Directory to test various iterations of enabling a master. But I find myself frequently doing things that I don’t think developers intended me to do. Server.app in Lion is a pretty good app for most tasks. Each Golden Chest consumes one Key, so farming is essential. Golden Keys are dropped by enemies in the Dungeon, which is accessible only after Skeletron has been defeated.
Plenty of people have wish lists for NHL ’22, and they’d likely be very different from mine. After all, if you wanted to bring your favorite team online, would you be happy facing a loaded Lightning squad, and so on?Ĭounterpoints like these remind you that EA Sports and other developers face challenges. While the ideal is to truly capture the stardom of a Connor McDavid, it could also create grumbling. Granted, player ratings bring things back to be careful what you wish for. In general, the game tends to be a bit too forgiving to bottom-pairing defensemen. (Although at least you could choose which WR you wanted to pass to, albeit at your own risk if they’re outside of that vision cone.) The suction cup/magnetized inevitability is one of the most poorly instituted EA gameplay mechanics since the nightmare QB cones of vision from Madden days of yore. “Board play” has never really been good.OK, now for an airing of pettier grievances. The above list seems like a good start, though. You can get deep into the weeds talking about the smaller and biggers ways to make NHL ’22 and future titles more authentic. More nuance in free agency? Basically, we need to recreate John Tavares and his Maple Leafs bedsheet.( How many teraflops does it take to capture the art of the dive?) So maybe it wouldn’t be feasible to add Joel Quenneville, and thus delight fans by rendering his mustache with glorious HDR. Look, the truth is that NHL games don’t command the same budgets as a FIFA or Madden. Adding real-life coaches would be nice.It would be great to see that bit of flair added to contract negotiations and other facets of running a team. It isn’t perfect, yet it’s an improvement. In NHL ’21, EA Sports added some flavor to its trade deadline. But maybe they could allow no-trade clauses to be part of negotiations? Perhaps signing bonuses could make or break a deal, or make a team’s owner get impatient with losing? Maybe it would be too much to ask EA to allow conditional draft picks to be part of trades. While NHL ’21 features a more nuanced Franchise Mode than ones from years ago, there are still some issues.let’s be honest, it would certainly be cool and ambitious. But it was in EA NHL games many moons ago, and people want it. The idea of jamming servers with leagues of up to 31 people - hundreds, if not thousands of them - seems like it’s asking a lot. Bringing back “GM Connected Mode” might be asking a bit much, but people want it.(I, for one, remember the days when Eric Lindros was a star even into his Rangers days.) By allowing users to share custom rosters, you could limit at least some of that whining. Just about any time EA Sports announces player ratings, people gripe. While a part of me fears that custom rosters and other sharing suites might open up the door for racist or profane names, these features are fairly common in sports games. One mostly reasonable idea is to add “roster sharing” for NHL ’22. If you search (gasp) other wish lists, you’ll notice themes (beyond the less constructive griping).Just note that this wish list aims to keep expectations at least somewhat reasonable. No doubt, there’s plenty of room for improvement. In reality, NHL ’21 and its ilk might be flawed, but there’s fun to be had. In a dream world, EA Sports could pump huge resources and staffers into revolutionizing NHL ’22, thus finding a perfect balance between simulation and fun. There have been cancellations, “Starship Troopers"-sized bugs, and cancellations following embarrassments over bugs. Maybe those review scores got to EA, as they tried to revamp their NBA games. For years, the NBA Live series sold reasonably well, even though NBA2K titles were more critically acclaimed. Realistically, it would be better for EA Sports to make incremental progress in those areas, rather than throwing out all of their code altogether (so to speak).īecause making a new NHL game, engine and all, from scratch? That’s easier said than done.ĮA Sports itself suffered through painful lessons with its NBA titles. Artificial intelligence remains lacking in crucial areas, especially with teammates in the offensive zone. Offense really is too dependent upon cross-seam passes and/or one-timers. Frankly, you don’t need to do much digging before you find complaints about gameplay in NHL ’21, and other recent editions. Not all Canadian producers that are subject to an administrative review are individually examined by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection collects duties on the softwood lumber products specified in the anti-dumping duties and countervailing duties orders.ī. In its AD review, the DoC determined that 273 Canadian softwood lumber producers – including Canfor and West Fraser Mills – sold softwood lumber products in the United States at prices below “normal value.” In its CVD review, the DoC concluded that those two producers, as well as J.D. Irving Limited and Resolute Forest Products, received countervailable subsidies. On 23 November 2021, the DoC announced the final results of its second administrative review of these AD and CVD orders. Pursuant to its first administrative review of these AD and CVD orders, in December 2020, the DoC applied ADs and CVDs of 1.57% and 7.42%, respectively. imports of certain Canadian softwood lumber products. In January 2018, the DoC published an AD order and a CVD order, with duties of 14.19% and 6.04%, respectively, applied on U.S. Several weeks later, the ITC released its final determination that imports of these Canadian products materially injured U.S. softwood lumber producers. imports of certain Canadian softwood lumber products, with final affirmative determinations in both investigations issued in November 2017. The DoC began AD and CVD investigations into U.S. softwood lumber producers filed petitions with the DoC and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), claiming that Canadian softwood lumber producers were being subsidized and were selling their products in the U.S. market below their market value. Softwood Lumber V began in October 2015, following the end of the two-year extension of the SLA. U.S. authorities returned more than $5 billion in duty deposits to Canadian companies. The United States agreed not to apply ADs or CVDs on imports of certain Canadian softwood lumber products for the term of the agreement. The SLA came into force in October 2006 for an initial seven‑year period, with a possible two-year extension. When the agreement terminated in 2001, another trade dispute occurred, with Softwood Lumber IV ending when the two countries concluded the Softwood Lumber Agreement (SLA). The MOU’s expiration led to Softwood Lumber III, which was settled in 1996 when a five-year agreement put a quota system in place for Canadian softwood lumber exports to the United States. Softwood Lumber II was resolved in 1986, when a six-year memorandum of understanding (MOU) established a 15% provisional tax on all Canadian softwood lumber exports to the United States. softwood lumber producers requesting that CVDs be applied on certain Canadian softwood lumber products. I’d guess that the increasingly competitive market has weeded out the substandard franchises. Gold’s Gym has ranked highest in customer satisfaction in two consecutive J.D. It might be the nicest gym in town, or an embarrassment, or anything in between. Because most Gold’s locations are franchises, and many franchisees own more than one gym, what you get for your membership will be very different from one area to the next. One I used a few years back was a complete dump-broken plumbing in the locker room, filthy carpets in the warmup area-but even there I could get a good workout, as long as I skipped the floor exercises. The local one had dumbbells up to 140 pounds, kettlebells up to 40 pounds, a heavy bag, and even a couple of tires to flip. They’re all different (especially the one in Venice), but they all share one important trait: In my experience, they’re designed to accommodate serious lifting. I’ve been to the flagship Gold’s in Venice, California, and I’ve been to several others over the years, including a local one that’s newly remodeled. But that’s true of almost any commercial gym. You’d have a tough time doing a program that requires alternating between two or more exercises. The only complaint I heard was about how crowded it is at peak hours. (Here’s a guide to TRX suspension training.) The locations are typically quite large, too, averaging 115,000 square feet. Readers who train there generally rave about it, especially the amount and range of equipment it offers, like Olympic lifting platforms and bumper plates, kettlebells up to 50 pounds, and TRX suspension trainers. As of press time, there are 141 locations in 28 states.īut if you are near one, and you can afford it, chances are you’ll be happy you joined. Life Time Fitness goes the opposite direction, with members paying an average of $105 a month, according to a company spokesperson. But that’s not a typical membership fee.Ībout two-thirds of us pay less than $50 a month, and those gyms are the fastest growing part of the health-club industry. Let’s start with a quick note about money: The average monthly fee for a gym membership is $55, according to Club Intel, an industry report. These are the best places to snag a membership in 2019. We did sprinkle in some variety though, including one recommendation that might get you out of your comfort zone-if you're bold enough to try something new. (Although you can still get a decent workout at a gym like that. So a chain like Planet Fitness, which discourages heavy lifting and in most locations doesn’t allow barbell squats or deadlifts, is out. But we don’t care about any of that.įor the most part, we focused on the free weights they tuck into the far corners of the workout floor, and the space they allocate for the kind of training you see in Men’s Health: heavy lifts with barbells and dumbbells, challenging exercises with kettlebells and suspension systems, and multi-directional bodyweight exercises for mobility, core strength, and metabolic fitness. Most gyms these days, big and small, are filled with similar cardio and weight machines. We looked into the national gym chains, soliciting opinions from readers and knowledgeable friends while visiting local branches when we could. My last bad gym, no kidding, made me write a formal letter of resignation, and then forced me to schedule an “exit interview,” all to chisel me out of an extra month’s dues.īut getting out of a bad gym membership is only half the battle. Next thing you know, you’re fighting to cancel your membership. It doesn’t take much to make a bad gym, or for a good place to morph into a bad one-a new owner, neglected maintenance, disgruntled or poorly trained employees. Goals are great-we all want gains and the positives that come along with them-but making sure that the gym you frequent is up to par is just as important as choosing your plan. A bad training environment can quickly ruin a good workout, matter how committed you are to your training routine. To measure cohesive strength, place a sample in a cell and preshear the sample: Exert a normal stress (σ) and shear it until the measured shear stress (τ) is steady and the sample is consolidated. The yield locus, determined by the shear cell tests, is used to calculate the major principal stress (σ 1), unconfined yield strength ( f C), effective angle of friction (δ), and kinematic angle of internal friction (φ). Shear cell testers are used to measure cohesive strength, internal friction, and compressibility. Cohesive strength, internal friction, and compressibility The properties are determined by calculations, measurements, and graphical analysis. Test results are used to calculate the size of the hopper section outlet and the recommended hopper angle. The first step in the design process is to determine the fundamental properties needed to predict the flow behavior of bulk solids: cohesive strength, internal friction, compressibility, wall friction, and permeability. An example calculation section illustrates how to specify storage vessel shapes, outlet sizes, and hopper angles. It expands on previous CEP articles devoted to solids storage and handling and bin design by providing a step-by-step guide to the graphical analyses and calculations necessary for bin design (1, 2). This article presents methods for measuring fundamental bulk solids flow properties and explains how to use them to design hoppers, bins, and silos for reliable flow. The converging section of a storage vessel is called the hopper section. In this article, the term bin is used to describe a storage vessel of any volume. Examples of hopper, bin, and silo geometries are given in Figure 1. Hopper and bin frequently refer to small storage vessels, while silo usually refers to tall vessels that store several tons of material. In bulk solid storage discussions, the terms hopper, bin, and silo are often used interchangeably. Common geometries for hoppers, bins, and silos include (a) conical, (b) wedge, (c) transition, and (d) pyramidal.
